The Jugal Himal Base Camp Trek with Bhairav Kunda is one of Nepal’s most diverse and spiritually enriching trekking journeys, combining remote wilderness, sacred alpine lakes, and breathtaking Himalayan panoramas in a single adventure.
Starting from the outskirts of Kathmandu, the trail gradually ascends through traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages, terraced farmlands, and dense rhododendron forests. The journey first leads you to the revered Panch Pokhari, a group of five holy lakes situated at high altitude, surrounded by pristine nature and considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. This section of the trek offers a peaceful and less-crowded alternative to more commercial routes, with stunning views of snow-capped peaks and a deep cultural experience.
From Panch Pokhari, the trail continues towards the remote and rugged landscapes of the Jugal Himal region. As we move higher, the terrain becomes more alpine, opening up dramatic views of peaks like Dorje Lakpa, Phurbi Chyachu, and Madiya. Reaching Jugal Himal Base Camp rewards trekkers with a close-up encounter of untouched Himalayan beauty, glaciers, and towering mountains.
The journey then extends to the sacred Bhairav Kunda, a high-altitude glacial lake of great religious significance. Nestled beneath rocky cliffs and snow-covered peaks, this lake is believed to be blessed by Lord Bhairav, attracting pilgrims during Janai Purnima. The serene and mystical environment of Bhairav Kunda makes it a perfect spiritual highlight of the trek.
This combined trek is ideal for those seeking a unique blend of adventure, culture, and spirituality. With fewer crowds, authentic local interactions, and ever-changing landscapes-from lush hills to high alpine terrain-it offers a truly off-the-beaten-path Himalayan experience.

Day 14: Trek to Chhokormokor (3,850m/12,632ft)
This day, the trek is little bit challenging as the trail is not well marked, and in many sections we will be walking on faint yak trails or across open terrain. From the campsite, the route first descends over loose, rocky ground where footing can be unstable, especially after rain or in windy conditions. We may to cross small streams without bridges, and in colder months there can be patches of snow or ice. After the initial descent, the trail traverses exposed ridgelines and open slopes, where weather can change quickly and there is little shelter. The walk typically takes around 5–7 hours, depending on pace and conditions, with no teahouses or reliable water sources along the way—so carrying enough water and food is essential. As we approach Chokarmokar, the terrain becomes slightly gentler with grassy patches and occasional herders’ huts, which can sometimes be used for shelter. It’s a physically demanding but rewarding section, requiring good stamina, navigation awareness, and preparation for remote mountain conditions. After spending some time at the lake, the trail descends continuously toward Bagam, first crossing barren highland slopes and then gradually entering greener terrain with alpine meadows and forest sections. The path can be steep, uneven, and tiring on the knees, especially in wet conditions. There are very limited facilities along the way, so carrying enough water, snacks, and proper gear is essential. The full day can take around 7–9 hours depending on your starting point and pace.
