Annapurna Region

The Annapurna Region in central Nepal is the most geographically and culturally diverse region for trekking. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) working with the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) has declared this region an area of conservation and sustainable development. Stretched over 2600 sq. km., the area boasts a variety of diverse cultures, tribes and castes such as the Brahmins, Chettris, Newars, Gurungs, Magars, Manangis and Tibetans.

This region is elongated from Kaligandaki River to Marshyangdi River. This region is one of the popular region for trekking as there are various trekking routes suitable for beginners to the extreme adventure lovers. Some popular trekking destinations for beginners are Ghorepani Poonhill, Ghandruk-Landruk, Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, Kaphuche Lake and many more.. For the regular trekkers, Annapurna Circuit, Tilicho Lake, Manang, etc. are popular. Whereas for the extreme backpackers, high altitude passes such as Mesokanta La Pass, Seven Passes Trek, Damodar Kunda Trek, Northern Annapurna Base Camp Trek are the options. Not only trekking, Annapurna regions owns the religious site, Muktinath Temple, at the elevation of 3,700m. Thousands of Pilgrims visit Muktinath Temple of Mustang every year. Manang and Mustang of this region lies in Trans Himalayan region of Nepal as we can get arid landscapes in these areas. Lo Manthang of Upper Mustang carries the historical importance and unique culture of Tiji Festival, celebrated on the month of May every year.

Climbing to Chulu’s Peak, Himlung Himal, Thorung Peak, Saribung Peak, Annapurna I, Annapurna South are some of the adventure mountaineering of this region.

This area has sub-tropical lowlands, valleys, bamboo, oak and rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, windswept desert plateaus and the towering Annapurna Mountains. This area has the world’s deepest river gorge, Kali Gandaki, lying some 6900-metres/22,563 ft. below some of the world’s largest and most beautiful mountains as the Annapurna I (world’s 8th highest) & Fishtail (one of the most beautiful). Animals and birds are in abundance in this region. 440 species of birds and animals like the marten, deer, langur and the elusive snow leopard live in this area.
