Choosing an adventure trek to an off-beaten trekking trail of Makalu Barun Region takes us to the foothill of the world’s fifth highest peak of the world, Mt. Manaslu (8,463m), Mt. Chamlang (7,319m), Baruntse (7,129m), and other beautiful peaks, landscapes and vegetation.
This 23 days of trekking starts right after landing at Tumlingtar Airport and get into the local vehicle upto Num. The walk starts from Num with numerous ups and downs to reach Makalu Base Camp (4,850m). We will retrace back following the same route upto Num and back to Tumlingtar. With the ample services of teahouse lodges, it has been fully organized trek and getting more popularized as of its isolated feature. On the way, a day-long side trip to the religious site, Shiva Dhara and Parvati Gufa is attracting pilgrims and domestic trekkers as well because of its religious significance.

Best Season
Spring Season (March-May) and Autumn Season (September to Early December) are considered as the best time to go Makalu Base Camp as we can expect mild temperature in the day and night and clear blue sky. However, the unpredictable weather pattern of mountain can cause frequent changes in the weather of specific places. Before trekking, we will inform the estimated weather pattern and temperature for trekking period during briefing session.

We focus on the safety and healthy performances of trekkers above 3000m with ample acclimatization days to minimize the risk of High Altitude Sickness. We provide a wilderness first aid treatment and backup oxygen concentrator with modern masks and regulators.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by a beautiful garland of seasonal flowers at the gate of the International Arrival Terminal.
With the final counting and loading of luggage into the vehicle, you will transfer to the hotel and check in.
After welcome refreshments, there will be a short briefing with the Infusion Trip Adventure Representative. You will get general information and orientation about the tour or trek.
Then you have free time in Kathmandu. You can explore the city.
In the evening – welcome dinner and traditional show in an authentic Nepali restaurant in Kathmandu. You will enjoy your dinner with different types of dances.

Day 02: Half-Day Sightseeing Tour and Trek Preparation.
After breakfast, proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu City including the World Heritage Sites. It includes a tour of two sites below:
Pashupatinath Temple – the Temple of Lord Shiva situated on the bank of the holy Bagmati River. The temple is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bouddhanath Stupa– an ancient colossal stupa and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in the world
The rest of the day is free for trekking preparation, such as trekking gear shopping, packing on a duffle bag, etc. Moreover, we will assist you to get Permits of Makalu Barun National Park Permit, Restricted Area Permits of Makalu Area, and other permits if required.

Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar & Drive to Num (1,500m/4,920ft)
Check out from the hotel and transfer to Kathmandu Domestic Airport to board an onward flight to Tumlingtar of Sankhuwasabha District. This 35-minute flight to Tumlingtar offers a magnificent view of the Rolwaling Ranges and Makalu Ranges. Upon arrival at Tumlingtar, we will meet the trekking support team and the waiting vehicle, drive to Num for 4 hours, and check into the lodge.

Day 04: Trek to Seduwa (1,628m/5,340ft)
After breakfast, start trekking with a steep descent to the Arun River at an elevation of 752m, walking on stone steps. The trail passes through Cardamom Farming. After crossing a suspension bridge, we will begin the long & and winding climb to Seduwa. We will pass the vast bamboo trees forest and downtown area villages with traditional homes and tea houses scattered across the hillside along the path. Before we reach Seduwa, we will visit the Makalu-Barun National Park check post for checking permits.

Day 05: Trek to Tashigaon (2,170m/7,117ft)
The trail ascents by passing several Mani walls, stone stairs, and Cardamom Farming Land. It also passes through rhododendron and bamboo forests. After two hours, descend to the bridge and we will reach Chyaksa Danda (1,900m) and stop for a tea break. Then continue to walk via the woodland area with the chirping of birds. With the ups and downs in a picturesque trail, we will reach the beautiful village of Tashi Gaon at an altitude of 2,170m.

Day 06: Trek to Khongma Danda (3,622m/11,880ft)
The uphill trek from Tashigaon through the rhododendron forest with the view of snow-capped mountains will be a lovely walk. After three hours, we will reach Dhara (2,867m) and stop for a tea-coffee/lunch break. The trail from here ascends steeply for around one hour to Unshisa (3,200m) which is marked with a prayer flag. Crossing Unshisha, we will ascend on stone steps through rhododendron forests and reach Khongma Danda (3,622m) after a couple of hours. Upon arrival, we will check into the lodge.

Day 07: Acclimatization walk to Khongma Danda.
As per the study on high altitude sickness, it has been found that most people suffer or show signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) from an altitude of 11,000 ft. Thus it is highly recommended to have a rest day to acclimatize at this altitude before starting an ascent. On this day, we will hike to a pass at 3,890m and return to the teahouse lodge.

Day 08: Trek to Dobate (3,880m/12,726ft) via Shipton La (4,200m)
This day is one of the hard walks as we will cross four high passes on the traverses with stunning views of snow-capped peaks. The trail ascends for about 1 hour through the forest and reaches the first pass of the day, Khongma La (3,890m) with the view of Makalu and Chamlang. After an hour of downhill and uphill walking, we will reach Sano Pokhara Danda (4,105m) with a beautiful lake. Further ascending, we will reach the highest pass of the day, Shipton La Pass (4,200m). At the top, we will find a single hut serving limited water or food for trekkers during the trekking season.
The trail then descends to Kalo Pokhari Lake at (4,080m) which is a holy site visited by Hindu Pilgrims during Janai Purnima Festival in August. Exploring the lake, we will climb the last pass, Keke La Pass (4,170m) and descend for 45 minutes to reach Dobate with nice lodges.

Day 09: Trek to Yangle Kharka (3,660m/12,004ft)
After breakfast, start to descend to the Barun River through rhododendrons and pine forests. The trail gradually ascends to Themathang Khola (3,500) for about 3 hours. En route, we will enjoy the view of the waterfall. Then we will walk down to the river and cross the Barun River and continue walking for about 3 hours and reach Yangle Kharka.

Day 10: Hike to Shiva Dhara (4,310m)
Early in the morning, start walking uphill towards Nghe Kharka and take a route of Shiva Dhara (4,310m). Shiva Dhara is the sacred tap to visit as it is believed as the home of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The water cascades from a high cliff. We will also visit the Parbati Gupha, Ama Bhujung, and other nearby attractions. Then return to Yangle Kharka (3,557m) for an overnight stay.

Day 11: Trek to Langmale Kharka (4,440m/14,564ft)
In the morning, the walk begins down towards the river with a great view of Peak 4, Peak 6 and Peak 7 and many more snow-clad mountains. With this, we can explore waterfalls, sacred caves, and cliffs. We will find some tea shops in Merek after crossing Yak Kharka. After walking for 2 hours, we will reach Langmale Kharka and get into the Lodge. Here we will spend 2 nights.

Day 12: Acclimatization Day in Langmale Kharka (4,440m/14,564ft)
On this day, we will go for an acclimatization walk before heading towards Makalu Base Camp. We can walk up to the viewpoint that offers stunning views of the Himalayan Mountains including Peaks 3, 4, 5 and Chamling. In the evening, return to the teahouse lodge.

Day 13: Trek to Makalu Base Camp (4,850m/15,908ft)
On this day, we will reach our destination with an uphill climb at the base of the world’s fifth-highest peak, Mt. Makalu (8,463m). With the pleasant view of Peak 4, Peak 6, and Peak 7, we will reach Shersong (4,630m) which offers stunning views over glaciers, icefalls, crevasses, and seracs. At the base camp, we will spend overnight for 2 nights with the dominant view of Mt. Makalu.

Day 14: Explore Makalu Base Camp.
On this day, we will explore the Makalu Base Camp area. After breakfast, hike to the viewpoint, on the ridge above base camp at 5,300 m for about 3 hours which offers a magnificent view of Mt. Makalu, Peak 4, Peak 6 and Peak 7. Later, we will return to the base camp.

Day 15: Backtrack to Yangle Kharka (3,660m/12,004ft)
After breakfast, we will leave the base camp and follow the same route to return to Yangle Kharka. En route, we will stop at Shersong for a tea/coffee break. After an hour of walking, we will reach Langmale and stop for lunch. Then continue walking towards Yangle Kharka via Merek.

Day 16: Backtrack to Dobate (3,880m/12,726ft)
Leaving Yangle Kharka, follow the same trail towards Dobate via Themathang where we will have a tea/coffee break. Walking uphill and downhill through the rhododendron forest will lead us to Dobate. We have to be preplanned with snacks as there is no teahouse until we reach Dobate.

Day 17: Backtrack to Khongma Danda (3,622m/11,880ft)
With the view of Kanchenjunga and other several mountains, we will cross the 4 passes that we did while going up. In the beginning, we will walk towards Keke La Pass, Shipton La Pass, further to Sano Pokhari Danda and finally at the top of Khongma La, marked by a mani wall. With the descent of 250m, we will reach Khongma Danda where we will get teahouse lodge.

Day 18: Backtrack to Tashigaon (2,170m/7,117ft)

Day 19: Backtrack to Seduwa (1,628m/5,340ft)
After breakfast, start to walk down to Seduwa. En route, we will stop at Chyaksa Danda for a tea/coffee break. We will explore the rural lifestyle, terraces farmland and the theme of the countryside. Upon arrival at Seduwa, check into the lodge.

Day 20: Backtrack to Num – 3 hours and drive back to Tumlingtar (518m/1,700ft)
This is the last day of trekking. In the beginning, walk down to the Arun River via stone steps. After crossing the Arun river, climb up to Num.
Upon arrival at Num, meet the waiting vehicle and drive back to Tumlingtar. Upon arrival at Tumlingtar, check into the lodge and check the tickets at the counter. In the evening, a bid farewell program will be organized for local guides and porters.

Day 21: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to the Hotel
Timely checkout from the hotel and transfer to Tumlingtar Domestic Airport to board an onward flight to Kathmandu for about 45 minutes with a pleasant view of the Himalayan Ranges including Makalu-Everest-Rolwaling-Langtang massif. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer and check into the hotel.

Day 22: Contingency day on trek or Kathmandu in case of bad weather or health issues.
If the plan goes smoothly with the flight on the required day/time, this day will be a free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities or sightseeing tours (on your own), last-minute shopping, bag packing, etc. On request, we will arrange a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.

Day 23: Transfer to International Airport for final departure.
