Introduction

Limbu Cultural Heritage Trek is a newly developed trekking route on the hills of Taplejung. This trek offers to observe the culture, tradition, livelihood, and lifestyle of the Limbu Community. We can see the farm of cash crops, Cardamom along the trail. Diverse flora and fauna, untouched natural landscapes and beauty, cultural performances like music and dances, Tongba (local alcoholic beverages), etc. are the major attraction of this trail. The warm welcoming of the Limbu people, meals with them at the teahouse lodge or Homestay, participating in their regular activities, and hiking on the trail in the community offers the best experience of trekking in this region. The trek starts from Suketar and passes the beautiful villages of Lalikharka, Kande Bhanjyang, Simbu Phumpe Danda, Mamankhe and Tellok. Mamankhe is a village of mostly Limbu Community having Limbu Museum and Culture Center.

The route lies inside the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area (KCA) which is within the Sacred Himalayan Landscape. It has been designated as a conservation area in March 1998 and covers an area of 2,035 sq. km. The Kanchenjunga region is inhabited by a mixed community of Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung, which provides an opportunity for trekkers to understand their culture and lifestyle.

Before the trekking, we will fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, south-eastern plain land of Nepal and drive to Taplejung region for 8 hours. During this drive, we will get diverse changes in the landscapes and weather as well. The trek starts and ends at Taplejung. In between, we may use local jeeps as some part are connected with road section.

Best Time to Visit 

Spring Season (March-May) and Autumn Season (September to Early December) are considered as the best time to go for this trek as we can expect mild temperature in the day and night and clear blue sky. However, the unpredictable weather pattern of mountain can cause frequent changes in the weather of specific places. Before trekking, we will inform the estimated weather pattern and temperature for trekking period during briefing session.

As this trek is consider as easy and suitable for beginners as well, we need normal trekking gears. However, this depends upon the weather and season. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by a beautiful garland of seasonal flowers at the gate of the International Arrival Terminal.
With the final counting and loading of luggage into the vehicle, you will transfer to the hotel and check in.
After welcome refreshments, there will be a short briefing with the Infusion Trip Adventure Representative. You will get general information and orientation about the tour or trek.

Then you have free time in Kathmandu. You can explore the city.

Day 02: Half-Day Sightseeing Tour and Trek Preparation.

After breakfast, proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu City including the World Heritage Sites. It includes a tour of two sites below:
Pashupatinath Temple – the Temple of Lord Shiva situated on the bank of the holy Bagmati River. The temple is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bouddhanath Stupa– an ancient colossal stupa and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in the world
The rest of the day is free for trekking preparation, such as trekking gear shopping, packing on a duffle bag, etc.

In the evening – welcome dinner and traditional show in an authentic Nepali restaurant in Kathmandu. You will enjoy your dinner with different types of dances.

Day 03: Fly to Bhadrapur and drive to Ilam Bazar (1,250m/4,100ft)

Timely, check out from the hotel and transfer to Kathmandu Domestic Airport to board an onward flight to Bhadrapur for about 50 minutes.

And meet the awaiting vehicle and start to drive to Taplejung via Mechi Highway. En route, stop at Kanyam to explore the beautiful tea garden. Later, continue to drive through pristine landscapes of sloped tea gardens, and thick natural forests.

Upon arrival in Ilam Bazaar, check into the hotel and the rest of the time is free to stroll around Ilam Bazaar.

Day 04: Drive to Suketar (2,420m/7,938ft)

After breakfast, checkout from the hotel and start driving towards Suketar of Taplejung via Phidim. The scenic drive offers the breathtaking and magnificent sceneries of the snowcapped White Mountains and lush green hills. With sufficient stops and rest for the acclimatization, we will make a flexible journey to Taplejung Bazar (1,820m/5,970ft) From Taplejung, we will drive uphill towards Suketar (2,420m/7,938ft).

Day 05: Trek to Lali Kharka (2,265m/7,430ft)

Early morning, start trek to Lali Kharka for about 4 hours. The trail gradually ascends to Deurali (2,600m) and descent to Lali Kharka through dense forest.

Day 06: Trek to Sichewa Bhanjyang (2,130m/6,986ft)

The trail continues descent to Simbu Village (1,845m) and further down to Phawa Khola. Crossing the river, the trail ascends through the forest and reaches Sichewa Bhanjyang. Homestay facilities are available at this village. The rest of the time is free to explore the village.

Day 07: Trek to Phumphe Danda (1,858m/6,095ft)

After breakfast, start trek to Phumphe Danda for about 6 hours. Crossing Sincheburi Bhanjyang, the trail descends to Khesewa (2,120). The trail passes through numerous villages and valleys. We will trek along the Kabeli River with a magnificent view of the Mountains. We will enjoy the hospitality of Homestay at Phumphe Dande.

Day 08: Trek to Mamankhe ( 1,785m/5,855ft)

This day, we will have an easy trek to Mamankhe which is about 3 hours. Leaving Phumphe Danda, the trail descents to Khaksewa Khola and further ascent to Mamankhe. We will explore the village of Mamankhe, visit Limbu Museum and Culture Center. In the evening, local people will perform cultural programs such as singing, dancing, etc. We will explore the cuisine of the local community.

Day 09: Backtrack to Khesewa (1,970/6,464m)

Asfter breakfast, start to trek retracing the same path towards Khesewa via Phumphe Danda. Upon arrival at Khesewa, check into the lodge and explore the village.

Day 10: Trek to Deurali (2,600m/8,530ft) 

Early morning, start trek towards Deurali. Leaving Khesewa, the trail will ascend to Sichewa Bhanjyang (2,129m) and retrace the route to reach Deurali. Upon arrival in Deurali, check into the Lodge. In the evening, we will have a farewell program with the trekking support team.

Day 11: Drive to Bhadrapur (90m/298ft)

After breakfast, check out from the lodge and start to drive to Bhadrapur via Mechi Highway enjoying the view of green hills, snow-capped mountains, rivers, tea gardens, and the daily activities of the locals throughout the ride.

Day 12: Fly Back to Kathmandu and transfer to the Hotel

Timely checkout from the hotel and transfer to Bhadrapur Domestic Airport to board an onward flight to Kathmandu about 50 mins with the pleasant view of the Himalayan Ranges including Kanchenjunga-Makalu-Everest-Rolwaling-Langtang massif.

Upon arrival at Kathmandu, transfer and check into the hotel.
The rest of the day is free in Kathmandu for rest and refreshment.

Day 13: Contingency day on trek or Kathmandu in case of bad weather or health issues.

If the plan goes smoothly with the flight on the required day/time, this day will be a free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities or sightseeing tours (on your own), last-minute shopping, bag packing, etc. On request, we will arrange a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.

Eve: Group Farewell dinner at an authentic Nepali Restaurant in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Transfer to International Airport for final departure.

Timely transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport to board an onward flight to home country 3 hours earlier than the scheduled flight departing time. We wish you a happy journey during your flight from Nepal to your home country with the hope to see you on your next visit to Nepal.
