Introduction

Olangchung Gola via Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a trek to one of the most isolated and remote areas of Eastern Nepal. This trek offers stunning mountain views of Kanchenjunga and Makalu, along with many other peaks and a variety of landscapes, green forests, and colourful villages. Olangchung Gola is rich in Buddism culture with Chorten (stupa), mani walls and prayer wheels. The Bhutias of Upper Tamur practices a much more orthodox pattern of Buddhist culture than any of the Limbu community of the Arun Valley. This is a long and adventurous trek to a remote part of Nepal, a region which sees far fewer trekkers than other areas because of its remoteness. The trek offers the adventure journey to discover the very less explored trails in the Himalayas and offers variations in landscapes from alpine grasslands to sub-tropical forests, low river valleys, glacial moraine, and rocky screed slopes.

The region is predominantly Buddhist and is home to Diki Choling Monastery. The monastery is dated around 400 years old and houses a statue of Avalokiteshwara, life-sized. The region is home to diverse ethnic groups whose main income sources are agriculture, husbandry, and tourism. The region is made up of alpine grasslands, famous rhododendron forests, low river valleys, remote villages, and ancient culture.

This trek will also extend to the northern base camp of the World’s third-highest peak, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586m). The Kanchenjunga region is inhabited by a mixed community of Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung, which provides an opportunity for trekkers to understand their culture and lifestyle.

Before the trekking, we will fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, south-eastern plain land of Nepal and drive to Taplejung region for 8 hours. During this drive, we will get diverse changes in the landscapes and weather as well. The trek starts and ends at Taplejung. In between, we may use local jeeps as some part are connected with road section.
